SERVIAM: Community Service Program
SERVIAM is a Latin word for “I will serve.” Following the Marianist tradition and inspired by the example of Mary, the community service program aims to form students to be servant-leaders through various experiential learning opportunities on and off campus. Thus, cultivating a culture of service among the students. It commences on the first schoolwide Mass in August with an apostolic “Rite of Commissioning” signifying the students’ commitment and dedication to service.
MARIANIST IN NATURE
In response to the message of the second encyclical of Pope Francis on “Care for our Common Homes”, entitled Laudato Si which means Praise Be To You, and inspired by the teachings of Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, SERVIAM is categorized into two areas: the “Cry of the Poor” and the “Cry of the Earth”, and structured following the Characteristics of Marianist Education (CME’s) namely:
- Formation in Faith - actions and services focused on building and nurturing the faith;
- Integral Quality Education - actions and services focused on fostering quality Catholic education through various means on campus;
- Family Spirit - actions and services focused on building and strengthening the family ties among the students and the community at large;
- Community Service, Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation - actions and services focused on advocacies promoting the care for life, nature, and the environment;
- Adaptation and Change - actions and services focused on civic engagement or community-driven learning activities.
SERVIAM encourages students to find their interests within these categories, do reflections, and share their learning experiences with their classmates and peers.
