A Day in the Life

Here is a typical academic day of a Riordan boarding student.

8:00 – 8:30 am

Wake Up and Breakfast

Your day begins with a friendly wake up from a member of the boarding staff 30 minutes before your first class, which starts at 8:40 am. During this time, you can use our brand new kitchen for breakfast, which is served from 8:00 am – 8:30 am every weekday for boarding students.

8:40 am – 2:40 pm

Classes

On a Regular Schedule day, you will have four 70-minute blocks of classes. For more information on the academic experience at Riordan, visit our Academics page. Between classes, we have a 10-minute break for munch in the morning and a 45-minute break for lunch in the afternoon.

2:40 – 5:30 pm

Activities and Sports

During this time, you may meet with your teachers at after school office hours, attend sports practice with your coaches and team, rehearse for a theatrical or band performance, or sign out to go off campus.

From 2:40 pm through 11:00 pm, a member of the boarding staff will always be on duty and available to help and support you.

5:30 – 6:30 pm

Dinner

Dinner is eaten daily at 5:30 pm in our brand new kitchen. Curious about the menu? Click here to find out more about the worldly cuisines our students try! If you are attending a sports practice and will be missing dinner, the boarding staff member on duty will happily save you a plate.

6:30 – 7:30 pm

Recreation Room

Shortly after dinner, you can hang out in the boarding program's recreation room, where you can socialize, play ping pong, piano, board games, or watch TV.

7:30 – 9:30 pm

Study Hall

On weekdays, this time is designated for students to focus on their academics. During these hours, we have a teacher in our community who is available to offer extra academic support. Students have access to the entire school to study, whether it's a classroom, the library, the lecture hall, or their personal room. You will have a safe and quiet space to focus and achieve your goals.

9:30 – 10:30 pm

Open Gym

Boarders have access to the weight room and the gym to end their night. At Riordan, we have an active culture, with many students who love to workout and play sports. On any given night, you can find students playing 3 on 3 basketball, volleyball, soccer, or lifting weights.

11:00 pm – 9:00 am

Quiet Hours

The final check-in of the night is at 11:00 pm. Out of respect for the other members of the boarding community, who may be studying for an exam or fast asleep, quiet hours begin at 11:00 pm.

Weekends

Weekends at The R begin on Friday evening. Our students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities. From checking out San Francisco landmarks, to attending a professional sports event (Warriors,49ers, Giants), to watching the latest movie, to shopping at the mall, to experiencing the worldly cuisines the city has to offer - your chance to experience all that the city has to offer is at your fingertips. San Francisco is a destination city that most people dream about, and our students turn those dreams of experiences into a reality!
