Craig Sargent Named Head Varsity Baseball Coach
Archbishop Riordan is pleased to announce the hiring of Craig Sargent as its next Head Varsity Baseball Coach.
Craig Sargent, a proud product of the Bay Area, graduated from Carlmont High School in 2007. He then honed his baseball skills at the College of San Mateo before furthering his education at Arizona State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications.
With a passion for coaching and mentoring, Sargent has dedicated the past several years to shaping the future of youth baseball in the greater Bay Area. His experience includes coaching at Millbrae Little League and working with players through his Sarge’s Heroes organization since 2021.
Sargent replaces former head coach Brian Ceinar, who led the program for the last two seasons.
“I am incredibly excited to usher in a new era of Riordan baseball, something that will make our alumni and community proud," Sargent said. "I hope to build something truly special here, where you'll see more purple and gold walking around with pride. Our program, from top to bottom, will be resilient, passionate, and respected. Together, we will strive for excellence and create lasting memories on and off the field.”
Sargent has family ties to Archbishop Riordan; his father, Bob Sargent, was a member of the graduating class of 1982.
"Our philosophy is to mentor, develop, and win," Sargent said. "We are committed to mentoring our athletes to become outstanding individuals, developing their skills and character both on and off the field, and striving to win with integrity and determination. This holistic approach ensures that our players are prepared for success in all aspects of life."
Archbishop Riordan Athletic Directors Jay’Sen and Bob Greene stated, “We are very excited about Coach Sargent joining our community and leading our baseball program. His enthusiasm and passion for working with student-athletes is something that we believe will positively impact our program and school.”
Archbishop Riordan Athletics
The lessons learned on the fields and courts will impact our students for a lifetime.
It has been the long-standing tradition and philosophy of the Archbishop Riordan Athletic Department that participation in athletics is an integral part of the education process. Our program stresses sportsmanship, self-discipline, teamwork, commitment, and self confidence, as well as dealing with success and overcoming adversity. These lessons enrich a student’s academic life while providing a foundation of character and integrity.
Archbishop Riordan High School is a member of the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL), one of the most competitive leagues in the United States. Many of our student-athletes have gone on to play Division I athletics.
