Welcome to the family!
It was great to see you all at the new families’ event on Wednesday evening. Within the first few minutes, I could sense that you guys have a special class, and I’m excited to see the great things you’re going to achieve over the next four years.
As you get more comfortable being a part of the community, please take advantage of everything Riordan has to offer. Utilize the academic resources available to you. Build a relationship with your counselor (you’ll be with him or her for four years). Immerse yourself in House Activities. And in the fall, get involved in at least one extracurricular program.
Above all, get to know your new family, especially your classmates. And don’t hesitate to come by my office if you need anything from me.
Like any strong family, we're excited to help you reach your potential. Riordan’s co-curricular structure has been devised to provide the most leadership opportunities possible in a high school setting, and our size allows us to deliver the kind of personal attention required to help you see all possibilities and to acquire the skills necessary to follow your dreams. It's up to you to find your pathway to success, but we're here to support you on your journey.

SportsNet Medical Clearance
Medical Clearance Deadline for Fall Sports: Sunday, August 1
Per school policy, students MUST obtain athletic clearance prior to participation in tryouts or other season practices. Each athlete is only required to register once per year. Athletic clearance submitted after this deadline may not get processed in time for team tryouts.
This summer, the whole school is reading one book as a way to continue to build our family spirit. This year's novel is Binti by Nnedi Okorafor.
There will be a formal assessment for summer reading, and each English course next year will be using the book for their first unit, so reading the book will be critical to getting off to a good start in English next year. Other departments will also be using it in their instruction and assessments, so reading the book is extremely important.
The supplemental reading list is not required but includes books that we think students will enjoy and are thought-provoking.
You can support Riordan when purchasing books by using Amazon Smile! Select Archbishop Riordan High School as your designation.
Riordan’s online bookstore through e-Campus opens July 19, and free shipping is available July 19-25. Please note that some digital texts may take up to 5 to 7 days to arrive for download. If you have any questions, contact the e-Campus Customer Service Team by email, Live Chat, or by calling (844) 523-8980.
Students should use their Riordan email to order, and new students can use a regular email. Fall semester schedules (Classes 1-4) can be viewed in PowerSchool beginning July 1.
Teachers will be giving instructions about other materials needed for courses during the first days of school. There is no pre-set supply list.
If you would like to request a schedule change, or have questions about your schedule, please fill out this form.
Schedule change requests will only be honored for the following reasons:
- You were misplaced in a class that you are not qualified for or did not request.
- You have changed your mind about taking an AP or honors course.
We will not make any changes based on teacher or time of day preference. Not all requests will be granted.
Many of you in the Band program will have a course in the "0" period. This is a class that will take place from 7:50 - 8:35 am during the semester that you do not have your other band course. This was created so that students could attend a band class all year. Your band instructor will provide more information about this before the start of the school year.
We will still utilize the 4x4 system next year. Classes listed in Periods 1-4 are the classes that you have in the first semester, and the classes that you have in Periods 5-8 are the classes you have in the second semester.
We have two lunch periods. During orientation, you will find out whether or not you have early or late lunch. Your lunch period will be reflected on your PowerSchool schedule when the school year starts.
Please click the button below to see the bell schedule for next year, which is different then the previous year; we plan on being back in-person five days a week in the fall and students are required to attend all days.
All students are required to have at least an iPad for the first day of classes.
We recommend the iPad Air or above, the iPad Mini 5 or above, or the iPad Pro. While the iPad Mini is an acceptable choice, it has a much smaller screen, which can reduce the impact of certain visually interactive apps in the sciences or the arts. Students pursuing digital media courses and extracurriculars may want the larger format screen with retina display, available on both the iPad Air and the iPad Pro.
The iPad needs to be running the latest iOS at all times. To update this on the iPad, go to Settings > General > Software Update. While you are able to get older versions of the iPad, please be aware that certain older iPads (2014 or older) are unable to update to the latest iOS and will have limited application support. Typing on the iPad screen can be challenging and an external keyboard can be helpful for note taking in classes.
Macbooks are also acceptable as long as it's up-to-date with the latest operating system. It is recommended to use a Macbook for Engineering/Coding/Programming classes.
What about PCs or Chromebooks?
We are in the process of exploring a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program here at Riordan. At the moment we have certain challenges supporting curriculums across other platforms besides Apple since we are an Apple centric school. Please be aware that PCs and Chromebooks will have limitations in our environment, especially in certain classes that require iBooks, iOS, and/or mac software.

Support Riordan through the Parent Pledge Program here.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Congratulations on your child’s acceptance to Archbishop Riordan High School! We are pleased to welcome you and your family to the Riordan community.
Each year we ask new parents to participate in the Parent Pledge Program, a four-year commitment made by each family. Over the past few years, parent support has allowed the school to make number of key improvements to both the curriculum and facilities, including the introduction of a biomedical sciences program this fall, the recent locker room upgrades, remodeling of several classrooms, and the renovations of both the gym and field.
The Parent Pledge Program is critical to the school’s success because the true cost to educate your child is more than tuition alone. The benefit of making a Parent Pledge gift instead of paying higher tuition is that this gift is tax deductible.
In 2020–21, we received pledges as low as $400 and as high as $12,000 over four years. We hope that all parents will consider a pledge that falls somewhere in between. Some will do less and some will do more— what counts is that all families participate at a level that feels right and is within their means. Those who choose to pledge $12,000 or more over 4 years will be invited to our Annual President’s Dinner in the fall.
Thank you for partnering with us to provide the best possible experience for your child, and helping us fulfill our mission to provide all of our students with a Catholic education in the Marianist tradition.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss the program in more depth please don’t hesitate to contact me. My phone number and email are listed below.

In addition to email channels, Riordan uses a platform called School Messenger to send texts to parents. One evening this summer you will receive a text to the mobile numbers you provided in PowerSchool. Please reply to the text with a Y or Yes to opt in to this system.
After that initial message, to opt in, send a text message with the letter Y or YES to the number 67587. You can also send a text message to this number to check the status of your registration. Again, your cell phone must be registered in PowerSchool for this to work.
