R VOICES: Melissa Chiao ‘25 - Bio Medical Program and Four Year Varsity Volleyball Player

What I love most about being a Riordan student is the sense of belonging—like I’m part of a family. As a girl at a former all-boys school, I had my doubts about fitting in, but I’ve been continually amazed by how welcoming everyone has been. I truly appreciate how close I’ve become with my teachers and counselors; they know me by name and always make an effort to say hello.

I chose Riordan because of its new BioMedical program. Since I was young, I’ve dreamed of a career in the medical field, and I’m so glad I embraced this opportunity. The hands-on simulations, like suture labs and heart rate monitoring, have truly prepared me for nursing school.

I’m also involved in several clubs, including volleyball, the Crusader Newspaper, the National Honor Society, and the BioMedical program. Each of these activities has helped me grow as a leader and develop valuable skills. After high school, I plan to go straight to nursing school, all thanks to the strong academic and personal support I’ve received at Riordan.
