Fiona Mulderrig - 2025

We are delighted to share the inspiring story of Fiona Mulderrig, a remarkable student at Riordan whose passion for the arts and dedication to helping others truly embody the spirit of our school community……………

Hi, my name is Fiona Mulderrig, and being a part of Riordan’s community has truly shaped who I am today. From the moment I received my acceptance offer with a personalized video highlighting Riordan’s science program and theater, I felt like I belonged here. That feeling of acceptance has stayed with me, and I’ve worked hard to pass it on to others.

At Riordan, I’ve had the privilege to be a part of so many amazing opportunities. I’m in the biomedical program, which has fueled my passion for human biology and neuroscience, and I’m also involved in student government, choir, theater productions, and National Honor Society. As the president of the drama club, I’ve worked to create a safe, inclusive space where students can build confidence, practice public speaking, and learn improvisation. My goal has always been to help others feel supported and empowered, whether they’re on stage or off.

One of my proudest moments at Riordan was organizing a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish. Having seen firsthand how much joy a wish can bring to a child with a life-limiting illness, I knew I wanted to help. I created posters, secured prizes, and rallied my peers to sell tickets. In the end, we raised nearly $2,000. Giving back is important to me because I’ve seen how much it can change someone’s life.

My sister, who has a chronic illness, has been a big inspiration in my life. I joined Make-A-Wish’s Youth Board and Kaiser’s Teen Advisory Committee to help improve services for children and families like ours. These experiences have shown me how important it is to advocate for others and work toward a more compassionate community.

One of the biggest highlights of my time at Riordan has been being part of the drama program. When I first started, I was nervous and unsure of my abilities, but under the guidance of Mr. Callahan, I found my confidence and grew as a performer. He taught me the importance of teamwork and how every role—on stage or behind the scenes—matters. I’ve learned so much about myself and what it means to work together toward a shared goal.

As I look ahead, I plan to double major in human biology or neuroscience and musical theater. Thanks to Riordan, I’ve developed the skills and confidence to pursue my dreams while also finding ways to give back to others. I’ll always cherish the lessons I’ve learned here and the incredible people who’ve been part of my journey.

Seoyeon “Rose Kim '25

Meet Seoyeon Kim ‘25 ( everyone knows her as ‘Rose’), a remarkable boarding student from Korea who chose Riordan as her home away from home for the past four years. For her, Riordan was more than just a school—it was a chance to immerse herself in a new culture, build lifelong connections, and grow into a confident, independent person.

When asked why she chose Riordan, she said:
"My mom and I loved San Francisco, and Riordan stood out as the only boarding school in the city. It felt like the perfect place to begin this journey."

Since arriving, she’s embraced all that Riordan has to offer, from marching in the band to swimming with the team and participating in clubs like ASA and Lancers. One of her favorite memories? Traveling to Rome with the band to perform for an international audience—a meaningful experience that expanded her world far beyond the local community.

While adjusting to a new culture was challenging, especially during her freshman year, Rose reflects on the growth and resilience she’s gained:
"Living abroad taught me how to face challenges on my own. Back in Korea, I always had people to help me, but being here has made me stronger and more mature."

Despite missing her family, she’s found comfort in sharing her culture with her peers, celebrating traditions like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas—experiences she finds uniquely special at Riordan. Her advice to other international students considering this journey?
"Don’t be afraid of the changes. Once you step out, you’ll be embraced by the community and have a great time."

Stories like Rose’s remind us of the incredible opportunities Riordan provides, shaping students to thrive in diverse communities and inspiring personal growth.

As we celebrate the global connections fostered at Riordan, we are grateful for alumni like you, whose support keeps these opportunities alive. Thank you for continuing to invest in the Riordan family and ensuring that future generations can share in these life-changing experiences.

Wishing you all a joyful holiday season, filled with the same sense of community and belonging that defines Riordan.

Jeremiah Jones' 25

Background: Jeremiah Jones is a proud native of San Francisco. The youngest of four siblings, his family’s roots trace back to Hunter’s Point before they settled in the Sunset District when he was very young. Like his older siblings, Jeremiah attended Herbert Hoover Middle School. However, he chose to break from the family tradition of attending a public high school and applied to Archbishop Riordan in 8th grade, seeking a new path. Jeremiah credits his single mother as his greatest inspiration, applauding her unwavering sacrifice and support that made his journey to Riordan possible. Her encouragement pushed him to strive for something greater, and her dedication ensured he could seize the opportunity. The past four years at Riordan have profoundly shaped Jeremiah into a young man ready to embrace the journey and opportunities ahead. This is his story, in his own words...

The one thing I love most about Riordan is the sense of community. Here, everyone—whether a teacher or student, freshman or senior—supports one another, creating a unique atmosphere that sets our school apart. The encouragement I’ve felt at Riordan has been a big part of my growth. Initially, I came here to improve my chances of success after high school and to set ambitious goals for myself. What I found was a life-changing opportunity that helped me develop as an athlete, student, and leader.

Throughout my four years, I’ve been involved in multiple activities. I’ve played both basketball and football, earning MVP awards in both sports and now wrapping up my senior season on the football team. Additionally, I’ve taken part in the Black Student Union (BSU) and coached at the Next Level youth program, teaching the fundamentals of sports to younger students. These experiences have shaped me into a leader and shown me the importance of gratitude for the opportunities I’ve been given.

A particularly memorable achievement was breaking the school record for carries in a football game with 42 against a top-ranked defense. It felt incredible to join the great tradition of Riordan football players, and I’m especially grateful for my teammates, whose efforts made it possible.

My plans after graduation include attending college locally and continuing to play football while pursuing a career in real estate. I aim to achieve financial independence by my 30s, leveraging the skills and connections I’ve built at Riordan to shape a successful future. Riordan has helped prepare me for this by fostering connections with teachers, staff, and my friends’ families, all of whom have guided me along the way.

What inspires me to give back is my mom's example. She regularly serves her community, and I’ve often joined her, especially during the holidays. I’ve learned the importance of sharing my experiences with younger students, ensuring that everyone feels supported, just as I have at Riordan.

Eva Abbott ‘25 - Cross Country State Qualifier

What I love most about Riordan is the strong sense of community, from the sports teams to the clubs and friendships I’ve formed. I chose Riordan for its RSP program, which has been crucial in helping me navigate my dyslexia and ADHD. This school has fostered an environment where I can thrive academically and grow personally.

As the captain of the cross country and track team, I embraced a new passion for running after trying out for track in my sophomore year, despite never having participated in sports before. My work ethic really sets me apart—I’m determined and proud of the effort I’ve put in.

One of my most memorable moments at Riordan was qualifying for the state championships in cross country last fall. The school celebrated my achievement by displaying my name in the hallway, which made me feel truly valued. I’m incredibly grateful for the support from my counselors, teachers, and cross country coaches—they’ve been with me every step of the way. Riordan has helped me discover my strengths and passions, which I plan to pursue in college.

Siddharth Thomas ‘25 : National Merit Scholar SemiFinalist

Riordan has defined the last three years of my life. What truly sets Riordan apart is its diversity, vibrant spirit, and commitment to continuous improvement. From the introduction of co-ed education just before I arrived to the recent upgrades like a new library, green room, and an expanding engineering program, Riordan consistently enhances its culture. I’ve witnessed the growth of everything from the new flag football team to our longstanding band.

At Riordan’s homecoming games, Crusader rallies, and through various clubs, I’ve found a supportive community that has been with me every step of the way. Although not all experiences have been easy, each has played a role in my personal growth and in forging deep friendships.

My successes with the robotics team and band are part of a larger story, evident in the new members who eagerly join each year, ready to contribute to our legacy. I take pride in my role in the Riordan NHS Chapter, serving as a mentor and tutor to younger students. Riordan fosters individual achievements while celebrating them throughout the community, which makes it truly special.

I vividly remember my first rally at Riordan—the noise and excitement felt overwhelming and unfamiliar. Now, I proudly participate, carrying the spirit of the Crusaders with me wherever I go. As I look toward college, I hope to find a community as spirited and supportive as Riordan, though I know that’s a rare find. When I was first applying to high schools, I struggled to find the right words to express my experiences, but what I’ve learned here could fill a library with stories and lessons.

As Vice Principal of Academics Nate Simon ‘99 says, “Sid Thomas has excelled in eight AP and honors classes at Riordan, earning an A in all of them. This year, he will take three more, bringing his total to 11. Additionally, he participates in the Engineering program and is a St. Francis Scholar, taking extra courses for both programs. With a weighted GPA of 4.25, which is expected to rise further after his current classes conclude in December, Sid is an exemplary student who balances his achievements with a rare calmness and positivity.”

Melissa Chiao ‘25 - Bio Medical Program and Four Year Varsity Volleyball Player

What I love most about being a Riordan student is the sense of belonging—like I’m part of a family. As a girl at a former all-boys school, I had my doubts about fitting in, but I’ve been continually amazed by how welcoming everyone has been. I truly appreciate how close I’ve become with my teachers and counselors; they know me by name and always make an effort to say hello.

I chose Riordan because of its new BioMedical program. Since I was young, I’ve dreamed of a career in the medical field, and I’m so glad I embraced this opportunity. The hands-on simulations, like suture labs and heart rate monitoring, have truly prepared me for nursing school.

I’m also involved in several clubs, including volleyball, the Crusader Newspaper, the National Honor Society, and the BioMedical program. Each of these activities has helped me grow as a leader and develop valuable skills. After high school, I plan to go straight to nursing school, all thanks to the strong academic and personal support I’ve received at Riordan.
