Riordan Safety

Archbishop Riordan's Safety Team plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of the Riordan Community. We have implemented safety procedures and protocols to maintain a safe and secure environment throughout the school year. We ask each member of the community to help us maintain a safe and secure environment.

Safety Procedures / Protocols

Emergency Drill Protocol

We will conduct various emergency drills during the school year to help the community prepare and maintain a safe environment. During drills, parents will receive three different notifications: an email, a phone call, and a text message to the associated numbers on file. (Please ensure that contact information is updated.)

We ask that you DO NOT call or respond to the notifications during a drill, as this slows down our primary task of ensuring the safety of our students and staff. During an actual emergency, we kindly request that you refrain from calling the school, as we may need to contact the police, fire department, and medical personnel if necessary. We kindly ask that you adhere to these guidelines so that we can adequately assess and respond to any emergency.

Once we assess the emergency, we will contact you via text, call, and email.

In the event of unforeseen emergencies, such as a tsunami warning, please be assured that the school will take the appropriate action based on the recommendations of local authorities and the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Calling in at the onset of emergency warning does not help the team plan accordingly; it only slows us down. Please note that the school will do everything possible to keep students and staff safe and will notify families at the appropriate time.

Pickup/Drop-Off Procedure

Please refer to the video for instructions on accessing Zones 1 through 3.

Rear Parking Lot Drop-Off Times

  • Drop-Off (Rear Lot):

    • 7:45–8:00 AM
    • 8:55–9:10 AM
Parking Lot Pickup Times
Regular Days - Line up in the rear lot from 1:40 pm until 1:55 pm
Early Dismissal Days - Line up in the rear lot from 11:55 am until 11:10 pm

Picking up Students Early

When you arrive on campus to pick up your student early, please call (415) 586-8200, ext. 250, or email attendance@riordanhs.org in advance to notify us. Providing prior notice helps ensure your student is ready and released in a timely and orderly manner. (Please refer to handbook p.23 and p.31)

Dropping off items

Throughout the day, a safety member will always be located in front of the school, ready to assist with any items that you need to drop off for your student. Please inform them when it is delivered, and they may pick it up at the front desk.

Medication Distribution

If you are coming to the school to administer medication to your student, you must call the school to notify them. The call ahead helps ensure that we promptly pull your student from class.

Coming Back on Campus

At the first dismissal time, 1:55 pm, students who leave campus but intend to return have a fifteen-minute grace period, until 2:10 pm, to do so. Students are permitted to return by 2:10 pm through either the front entrance or the rear parking lot gates, if open. If a student re-enters the campus through either the entrance or exit gates after 2:10 pm, they will receive detention. All students may re-enter through the front of the school at 3:00 pm.

Locker Room

Locker rooms are for changing before and after classes, practices, and events, as well as for team meetings. Refrain from eating and mere socializing; respect the space and take care of your belongings/surroundings. Lock all personal belongings in a locker (check that it is securely locked) and do not share locker combo information with anyone (reach out to Athletic Directors about locker assignments). Adhere to the posted open hours in the mornings and afternoons each school day at the locker room entrance. Students should not prop doors; only adults are allowed to lock or unlock locker rooms. Make sure you have your essential belongings on hand during the school day, as we will not allow in-and-out access throughout the school day (ask the Safety Team for a school building locker if needed). Any students in the locker room without permission and not following the rules will be assigned detention.

September Safety Month

Be on the lookout! During September, we will provide video updates in the family newsletter to help you and your student maintain a safe environment at and around Archbishop Riordan. Here is a video of our emergency action plan that you can review with your student to ensure they keep their safety.

Safety Updates

ATTENTION!!!

In Zone 2, both sides of the street are fire lanes and have worn-out paint, with signs stating 'no stopping' in effect. Starting in late September/early October, with the commencement of two construction projects and numerous large vehicles entering and exiting daily, CCSF police will enforce North Road (Zone 2 Pickup/Drop-Off), ensuring that no parked or double-parked cars are on either side of the street.

Please use zone 1 or zone 3, which is the rear parking lot (available only during certain hours; please refer to the times above). Alternatively, consider dropping off and picking up a few blocks away from campus to help reduce traffic congestion.
