Athletics Announces New Baseball & Wrestling Coaches

Archbishop Riordan High School is pleased to announce that Brian Ceinar has been named Head Coach of the Varsity Baseball team and Jack Schindler has been named Head Coach of the Wrestling Program for the Riordan Crusaders.

Ceinar has been a coach in the San Francisco baseball community for the last 25 years, mentoring countless players at the grammar school, middle school and high school levels.

He was previously the head coach at Summit Shasta High School in 2016 and Stuart Hall High School from 2017-2019. While at Stuart Hall, Ceinar led the to North Coast Section postseason berths in each season at the helm and the BCL West League championship in 2017.

In addition to his high school coaching experience, Coach Ceinar has been the head coach of the Rascal Baseball club program since 2010.

Ceinar has previous family ties to Archbishop Riordan, where his son, Brian Ceinar Jr. is a 2016 graduate and played varsity baseball. He is about the chance to lead Riordan into its next era on the diamond.

"I am excited and honored to be the head baseball coach at Archbishop Riordan,” Ceinar said. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to lead players on a path of development, team camaraderie, and love of the game. I will be doing everything in my power to bring a brand of baseball that makes the Riordan community proud."

Riordan Athletic Directors Jay’Sen Morris and Bob Greene stated that, “Coach Ceinar brings extensive experience within the San Francisco baseball community that will serve him well as he takes over our program and leads it into its next chapter. We are excited to have Coach Ceinar step into this role and believe that he will have a very positive impact on our baseball student-athletes and our overall school community.”

Coach Ceinar takes over for Brandon Ramsey, who retired this past spring after nine seasons leading the program. Ramsey continues to serve as the school’s Director of Facilities.

Schindler joins Archbishop Riordan this school year as both the Wrestling Head Coach and an English and History teacher after a 12-year career at his alma mater of Sacred Heart Cathedral, where he also served as the head wrestling coach for the last five seasons.

Riordan Athletic Directors Jay’Sen Morris and Bob Greene stated, “Our wrestling program has a proud history of success on the mat, while simultaneously enriching the high school experience and lives of countless Crusaders through the years. We believe Coach Schindler will continue this tradition and help it grow into this next chapter.”

Schindler has great enthusiasm and energy and is looking forward to leading an Archbishop Riordan wrestling program which has consistently been among the most successful in Northern California for many years - winning West Catholic Athletic League championships in 2018 and 2020.

“It’s an honor for me to be named head wrestling coach at Archbishop Riordan, the most prestigious wrestling program in San Francisco,” Schindler said. “I am overly excited about the opportunity to lead our young men and women. The wrestling program has an unparalleled tradition with a tremendous community at Archbishop Riordan. I am already working every day to ensure I put my best foot forward as head coach of this program and strive to elevate Archbishop Riordan Wrestling to higher levels.”

Coach Schindler takes over for Zac Contreras ’14, who served as a long-time member of the wrestling coaching staff, prior to stepping down in the summer of 2021 after leading the program for one season.
