Dear Riordan Community:

With deep gratitude and great joy, I am pleased to announce that Archbishop Riordan High School has received a $750,000 grant from The Carl Gellert and Celia Berta Gellert Foundation that will support the installation of a new turf field on Riordan’s campus. This is one of the largest gifts in the history of the school. When completed, Mayer Family Field will be housed inside the Gellert Athletic Complex, featuring a state-of-art synthetic turf, new baseball facilities, and a renovated press box and grandstand area.

The Gellert Foundation has long supported Catholic education in San Francisco and has previously provided Riordan with substantial support for our tuition assistance fund and with the lead gift to construct The Carl Gellert and Celia Berta Gellert Ministry & Technology Center in 2010. When he learned of this transformational grant, Riordan Board Chair Steven Herrera ’76, said it best: “This gift from The Gellert Foundation will change Riordan forever. The field is Riordan’s largest classroom, as it sits on 1.8 acres (20%) of our campus and is where our young men learn lessons that will last a lifetime. I am confident that the new field and athletic complex will help us continue to build our enrollment while providing a space that will be used by all of our boys, every day, for years to come.”

On behalf of the entire Riordan community, we would like to thank the entire Board of The Carl Gellert and Celia Berta Gellert Foundation for their wonderful support of our young men. This gift ensures that we will break ground on the Field Project in 2019, benefiting our 690 current students and future generations of proud Crusaders.
