PowerSchool FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) If your specific question is not answered below, you can always call the Technology Office at (415) 586-8200 ext. 229 or e-mail me at I will attempt to answer your questions as soon as possible and if necessary, call PowerSchool’s Customer Support line to obtain answers to questions we have not encountered to this point. George Cockrell Q. I have not been able to get to the sign in page for PowerSchool. Why can’t I find the web site? A. There is no www. In the web site address. Likewise the web site cannot be found by a browser search such as Google or AOL search. To reach the web site, simply type http://powerschool.riordanhs.org in the URL line of your browser. This will get you to the site. Once you are at the login page, you can add this site to your favorites or bookmark it. This way you can easily access the login screen in the future Q. Are the Archbishop Riordan High School web site (http://www.riordanhs.org) and the PowerSchool web site (http://powerschool.riordanhs.org) the same place on the Internet? A. No. The Archbishop Riordan High School web site is open to the general public. The PowerSchool web site is exclusively for the Administration, Faculty, Parents, and Students of ARHS. Each parent and student account has a unique and secure user name and password. Only the individual parent and/or student can access his personal information on this site. Q. I have lost or accidentally recycled my user name and/or password for PowerSchool. How can I find out what it is? A. Your user name and password are the key to the security of your student’s private academic information. Therefore, as does any other institution that holds private information about individuals, we will not give out user names and/or passwords over the telephone or via e-mail. If you have lost your username or password, you can call or e-mail our office at the numbers listed above and we will mail the information to your home address. Students may obtain their user names and passwords by submitting their ARHS Student Body Card at the Technology Office. Q. When I went to PowerSchool on January 25, 2004 to see the grades that my son received for the first semester, I couldn’t see all of his first semester grades and assignments. All I could see was his Band grades or one or two courses. What gives? A. The Grades and
Attendance page that you see when you first enter PowerSchool only
shows grades and attendance for courses in which the student is
currently enrolled. Since the 1st Semester ended on December 20,
2003, students are no longer enrolled in those courses. The grades
and attendance for these courses will no longer appear on this page.
You can see Final Grades for these classes by clicking the Grades
History button on the first page that you see. The Grades History
page displays only Final Grades. You cannot see grades for specific
1st Semester, 1st Quarter, or 2nd Quarter class assignments. To
determine the assignment scores that make up the final grades, you
must contact the teacher of the class. Remember, only 1st Semester
(S1) and 2nd Semester (S2) grades appear on student transcripts.
Quarter grades do not appear on transcripts. Q. I have tried to e-mail teachers and my mail gets returned or the teacher does not reply. How cans this happen? A. There can be a number of reasons for this. Riordan teachers have been encouraged and agreed to answer e-mails and phone messages in a timely manner (usually within 24 hrs.). You should be able to e-mail teachers by clicking on their names on the PowerSchool web pages. Clicking on these links should open your e-mail program and allow you to send the mail. However, different mail servers and ISPs configure their mail services in different ways that may make these name links inoperable (especially business, corporations, and government agencies). These settings could disable the links in PowerSchool. If your e-mail is being returned, or you suspect that the teacher is not getting your mail, go to your e-mail program and send the e-mail in the “traditional “ way instead of using the links in PowerSchool. All e-mail accounts at Riordan begin with the person’s first initial and last name followed by @riordanhs.org. (E.g. my address is gcockrell@riordanhs.org). This should solve the problem. If not, contact the teacher by phone so that we can look into possible causes on our end. Q. I have requested regular reports to be sent to my email address, but I never receive the reports in my email. What’s the problem? A. You may not be receiving the reports that you request because your email address is currently in PowerSchool is incorrect. If you are not receiving emailed reports carefully check your address in the lower part of the “E-Mail Notification” page of PowerSchool. You can correct your email address or change it if you change Internet service providers. If your email address is correct, as in the previous answer, check with your ISP or your network manager to see if their systems are blocking certain types of mail. Q. What is the Class Registration button for? A. Working with the counselors in the Guidance Department and the Academic Department Chairpersons, we will be using this function to make student course requests for the coming school year. At this time, this process will take place on campus under the supervision of the counselors and scheduling personnel. We will keep you informed of the course requests that are made at appropriate times throughout the process. If you have any other questions, please contact us at the phone number or at the email address at the beginning of this document and we will attempt to answer them in the best way we can. |
