Community Service Events at Riordan!

Service Learning is a way of life at Riordan, and the new Campus Ministry and Community Service Learning Department will lead monthly drives to benefit a number of local causes.

September

“Every Penny Counts” Campaign

Every year, we hold a divisional competition to see which class can raise the most money for SF AIDS Emergency Fund by filling giant jars with coins. This year, we raised approximately $2,000.

October

“Real Men Wear Pink” Campaign

Students participate in Lee National Denim Day by donating $5 toward breast cancer research and wearing jeans on October 3rd. This year, we had over 76% of the school donate to Denim Day, and raised almost $4,000.

Blood Drives

For the past several years, Riordan has been honored by the Blood Centers of the Pacific as the high school with the most blood donations in the Bay Area. Last year, we donated over 400 pints during our yearly blood drives.

November

Canned Food Drive

This traditional drive yields hundreds of cans of food for hungry families over the holidays.

December

SF Fire Department Toys for Tots

The Interact Club (sponsored by Rotary) raises money to buy toys for economically disadvantaged children.

February

Heifer Drive

Students raise money to buy livestock in Africa, supporting sustainable development efforts.

April

Hunger Retreat

Students fast for 24 hours during lent, and participate in a retreat designed to provide opportunities for reflection on world hunger and poverty.

Immersion Trip to New Orleans

Last year, students responded to the Gulf Coast’s cry for help by raising over $5,000. This year, we are continuing to stand in solidarity with the displaced and forgotten by taking students, parents, and faculty to New Orleans over Spring break.
