Retreats Marianist founder, Father Chaminade, said: “The essential is in the interior. To strengthen the interior life, we provide time for nurturing habits of silence and reflection.” (Characteristics of Marianist Education) A retreat is a special time set aside for getting to know oneself, others, and God in a deeper way. It is a time of sharing with others within a group, division or team so that through interaction and communication one can get a better sense of the role God and others play in our lives. Freshman/Crusader Brother Program and Retreat A special one-day, senior-freshman retreat, designed to aid the freshman in his first year at ARHS and to introduce him to the school, takes place during the week of orientation. To reinforce this support, each freshman meets with his designated Crusader Brother several times in the first semester. Freshman Retreat (1 per year) This one-day retreat is the freshman's first foray into the retreat experience. The day is centered on a ropes course and deals with inter-connectedness and the appreciation of others in our lives. Sophomore Overnight Retreat (2 per year) This first overnight retreat, held twice during the year, challenges sophomores to get to know each other in a deeper way, to discuss the common issues they face as growing teenagers. Retreatants begin to build a community of acceptance and unity which they bring back to school and to future retreats. Only those students who wish to attend do so. Junior Overnight Retreat (2 per year) This three-day, two-night retreat is for juniors who wish to have an extended experience away from their usual environment. Juniors develop a deeper sense of community and a deeper appreciation of the gifts God has given them. Kairos (Senior) Retreat (3 per year) Kairos is the centerpiece of all the retreats here at ARHS. It is an experience involving the deepest kinds of introspection and sharing. Talks and small group discussions facilitated by faculty and young adult Kairos alumni give the senior time to examine his values and ideals and focus on his relationships with God, with his family, with himself, and with his future. Other Specialized Retreats
Living in Faith Experience (L.I.F.E.) This weeklong summer retreat for selected student ministry leaders offers experiences and training in leadership and faith. It is held in conjunction with other Marianist high schools in the United States, therefore adding a co-educational and multi-cultural dimension. The Living In Faith Experience invites students to explore their personal relationships with God. The team's mission is to establish Marianist Life Communities (MLC's) in the school, giving students the opportunity to explore their relationship with God through sharing the scripture and small group activities.
