COLLEGE PLANNING CALENDAR

SENIOR YEAR

AUGUST

Take challenging courses and note progress towards graduation and college requirements.
Apply for a social security card

 

SEPTEMBER
Athletes register for the NCAA
Maintain or improve activities, academics, study skills
Research scholarship opportunities
Register for SAT I, SAT II, or ACT
Finalize 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Choices for college

 

OCTOBER
Obtain college applications
Ask for necessary letters of recommendation – Give copies of completed portfolio and resume to teachers that you request letters from.
Inquire about applying or EOP, the Educational Opportunity Program
Attend college nights
Finalize your college essay.

 

NOVEMBER
Obtain letters of recommendations by Nov. 15
Mail admission applications into the UC and/or CSU systems
Have your transcripts sent to requesting colleges.

 

DECEMBER
Last month to take ACT or SAT for UC’s.
Attend meetings on financial aid process
Review the FAFSA Form
Visit college campuses during vacation

 

JANUARY
File FAFSA and Cal Grant GPA verification form.
If required request that transcripts be sent.
Double check graduation and college requirement progress

 

FEBRUARY
File FAFSA no later than March
File College Scholarship Service Profile.

 

MARCH
Plan summer activities: school work or community service.
Apply to community college and take placement exams

 

APRIL
Register for Summer classes at community colleges.
Research summer jobs and update portfolio/resume for jobs
Return intent to register forms to your chosen school.
Notify colleges that you are NOT attending

 

MAY/JUNE
Get a job and save money for college
Notify school of college awards, grants, and scholarships for graduation program.
Ensure that final transcripts are sent to your chosen college. (Registers office)
Thank those who have helped you (especially the people who wrote letters)
