Crusaders Capture First-Ever CCS Crown The 2007 Archbishop Riordan High School Football Team rolled through three straight Medium School Division playoff games to win its first Central Coast Section Championship. The Championship Game against Live Oak High School of San Jose was never in doubt. The Crusaders built a 26-0 first quarter lead, upped to 47-0 in the third quarter before Live Oak came back with three touchdowns in the final 13 minutes. Second-year head coach Mike Langridge had the Crusaders prepared after they slogged through the tough WCAL season. Through the CCS playoffs the Crusaders outscored their opponents (Terra Nova, Pioneer, Live Oak) 146-49 while totaling 1,590 yards. Quarterback Darius Bell and wide receiver Daniel Cannon are considered to be the best pass-catch combination in the CCS and the best QB-WR duo in Riordan’s history. This Crusader squad had a number of outstanding senior athletes along with Bell and Cannon. The weapons on offense included Osa Aigbuza, Anthony Ghanayem, Nico Santiago, Chris Seals, and Jordan Wood. Senior defensive stalwarts included Daniel Curtin, John Johnson, John Marman, and Manuel Ocon. The lines were anchored by seniors Joe Fa’afiu, Alex Lule, Michael Mackey, Jude Meloncon, Daniel Nunez, Albert Sanchez, and Errol Tu’ufuli. Also making significant contributions throughout the season and during the playoff run were seniors Austin Alcaraz, Rick Arenas, Daniel Brown, Marco Fernandez, Eric Liao, and Michael Lim. Varsity Crusaders returning to defend their CCS crown are John Buscovich, James Carter-Yates, Aaron Criswell, Ben Duca, Mike Garrity, Johnny Greene, Ray Greenwald, Gianni Jackson, Tony Joe, Ryan Jones, Gino Mannina, Kevin Sabella, Michael Tuimavave, and Kent Washington. Congratulations again to the entire football program on this historic season.
