Process › Support Services
Collaboration with classroom teachers in educating them
on the accommodations needed for individual students as specified in
their educational evaluations. Specific individual instruction in study skills,
testing strategies and critical thinking skills. An individualized study skill/curricular
class for Freshmen and Sophomore students. Assistance with building student’s
self-advocacy and social skills, and developing an understanding of their
academic strengths to help
them where they may struggle.
Individual help with research projects, term papers and other writing assignments
in all subject areas. The RSP staff offers small group tutoring. Based on
our assessments, we may recommend individual tutoring and refer a student
to private tutors.
Partnership with the National Honors Society students who volunteer to assist
students during lunch and after school.
American Sign Language (ASL) for students who struggle with language acquisition
and need a more kinesthetic approach to learning another language.
Assisting students with their subject tests during their class period as well
as providing extended time during lunch and after school resource. These tests
include midterm and final exams.
Advice, assistance, and referral regarding any academic obstacles that the
student may encounter.
Participation in I.S.P meetings and/or I.E.P meetings on a yearly
basis. Parents are instructed to have their child’s Educational
Evaluation renewed every three years. Parents and their child are
also required
to attend an
I.S.P. meeting every year.
Note-Taking Project to help students have access to salient information through
collaboration with another student with good note-taking skills. Students
who have difficulty taking notes are paired with a note-taking buddy who uses
NCR paper. The RSP goes over the important elements of the class notes at
the center.
Assistance with College Board Applications for the Standardized Testing such
as the PSAT, SAT and ACT.
Advanced Technology to assist students with their learning needs.
Macintosh Computers are available in the RSP room.
Laptop computers are available for qualifying students to use in class or
in the RSP room.
Books-on-CD for both curricular textbooks and general reading are available
in the resource room through the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic
(RFB&D)
upon request.
Computer Software to assist students with broad reading and writing skills.
(i.e. Kurzweil, Inspiration 7.6)
Transition to College/Career to help students prepare for their post-high
school experience. The RSP works closely with the seniors to assist
them with their search for a college and/or career that best matches
their abilities
and interests.
In addition to the tuition, there is an annual fee of $1000.00 for
the 2005-2006 services provided by the Resource Specialist Program.
