Catholic schools are committed to providing an educational environment in which all students have an opportunity for success. Special education programs such as the ARHS Resource Specialist Program provide accommodations and minimal modifications based on the student’s current Educational Evaluation, Individual Educational Program (IEP), and/or Private School Individual Services Plan (ISP), which supports their qualification to receive services. ARHS follows specific guidelines when considering students for the special education program. The student MUST meet the following documentation criteria to be considered for the RSP.

A student MUST have a comprehensive Educational Evaluation completed within the last two years by a licensed professional (public or private) who is qualified to administer and interpret intelligence and achievement tests.

This documentation must:
• provide a clear statement regarding the nature of the learning disability;
• validate the need for services based on the individual’s current level of functioning in the educational setting;
• include the names of tests administered and all subtest scores;
• include an analysis of test performance;
• provide recommendation for services.

Some Possible Tests for Assessing Individual’s Needs
These are acceptable tests but it is a partial listing. Please have the licensed assessor contact the Resource Specialist to discuss any other types of these tests that could be used.

The Detroit Tests of Learning Aptitude – 3 or 4 (DTLA-3/4)
Information from subtests on WAIS-R or Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-educational Battery - Revised; Tests of Cognitive AbilityIf a student has an active Individual Educational Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan developed by public schools, it MUST be submitted with the Educational Evaluation. The document should contain all necessary documents (assessment reports, IEP team recommendations, etc.). These are usually developed for a student who has been assessed and qualified as having special learning needs by a public school district. Students who attended a private school will not necessarily have this document. Therefore, the educational assessment is preferred to determine if services can be provided by the private school. .
