Winter season has officially started!!!

On February 25, 2011, the Archbishop Riordan Drumline began their second winter season at the San Mateo Winter Percussion Competition/Clinic. The drumline placed 2nd out of 5 in the high school novice division bringing home an award for second place.

Riordan's new era of drum majors entered their first winter season competing in the NCBA L-pattern competitions. L-pattern competitions are solo drum major competitions. Last spring in April, Benjamin Tan, Marty Lynch, Abe Go, and Simon Ankirsky all were the first drum majors from Riordan to ever do an L-pattern. At San Mateo, Riordan boasted three drum majors in the Mace Apprentice (Novice) division: Anthony Triguiero, Stephen Velasco, and Joniel Lemley along with two Mace Majors

(Intermediate) returning spinners Abe Go and Simon Ankirsky.

Anthony Triguiero won 1st place in the Mace Apprentice division in his first L-pattern competition after only spinning for 5 months. Anthony scored a 92 and had a 10 point advantage over the 2nd place finisher. Abe Go, in the Mace Majors division, placed second with a score of 89 in his second ever L-pattern!

Fairfield Tournament of Champions Results:

The Archbishop Riordan Crusader Marching Band went to Fairfield to defend their 1st place finish last year at the tournament. This year, under extremely rough rainy conditions, the band persued perfection once again and captured its 2nd, 3rd, and 4th first place awards in the band's history! The Riordan Wind Ensemble scored a 90.5. This was the first time that Riordan has broken a score of 90 at a band review competition. The colorguard also took it's first ever first place award under the direction of Mark Lieuw and Paisley Parker. Check out the video page for footage from the awards ceremony.

Del Mar Results/Columbus Day Parade:

The Crusader Marching Band won 3rd place for both wind ensemble (concert) and jazz band. The marching band placed 6th in the toughest division with a season debut score of 86.3! This is a truly great score for our first start of the season! The band will be performing at the Columbus Day Parade on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco!! The parade will lead up to North Beach!

Del Mar Band Review:

The Del Mar Band Review is this Saturday, October 2nd!!! Band Call Time is 7:00am and the Colorguard Call Time is 6:15am. We will board the bus and leave by 7:45! For any parents who would still like to go there is still room on the bus! Join us as we kick off our band competition year!

Washington D.C. Parent Meeting:

There will be a parent meeting with information about the Summer 2011 Washington D.C. Trip and payment information as well following the band booster meeting on Tuesday. The band booster meeting meets at 7pm.

Performance Date Correction:

The 2011 Chinese New Year Parade is being held on February 19, 2011. The Riordan/Riordan Band Calendar has it listed on February 26th. In addition to the change made on the Chinese New Year Parade date, the Udovich Memorial Luncheon performance for the jazz band has been moved to October 3. Please make the changes to your calendars.

Attention Band Parents: There will be a Washington D.C. Trip meeting on September 8 or 9th. The date is to be determined. The meeting will have more information about the trip as well as discussing the upcoming first payment for the trip on July 1-5, 2011. Please keep the dates open for the meeting.

Pistahan Parade and Festival:

On August 14, 2010, the Archbishop Riordan Marching Band had its earliest performance in band history. The band marched in the parade before school began the coming Monday. The band was awarded a trophy for the Best Performance in the parade. The band played the march accompanied by 14 colorguard members! Congratulations to the Riordan Band and Colorguard on a great first performance!

Marching band camp will begin during the first week of August from August 2nd - 6th.

Band camp is mandatory and will be from 8am - 4pm. More updates will be available as August approaches!

Below is the tentative calendar for the 2010-2011 Riordan band. Dates and times are scheduled to change. Events may be added to the calendar during the school year as well. Some events are tentative based on last year's dates.
