1. When are applications due?
The application deadline is March 1, 2012 for the 2012 to 2013 academic year. Applications for the Boarding Program have a
rolling admission and there are limited spaces in the program, so please apply
early.
2. Is an admission interview required?
International studentsare required to interview with an admission representative. We prefer a personal
visit to our campus when school is in session. If this is not possible, we will
accommodate a cyber broadcast interview once the application is complete and
received by the Admission Office. Please call our office to set up an interview

3. What entrance exams are required for the Boarding
Program?
All international students must take either the Secondary School
Admission Test (SSAT). Please check the SSAT website to find the test centers in
your country. In addition, you must submit the TOEFL or SLEP results by the
application deadline. Applicants for the eleventh grade must submit the TOEFL.
4. I am an international student, what do I need to know about Visa Information?
If an international applicant is accepted to Archbishop Riordan High School, we
will issue an I-20 after we receive the signed enrollment contract and the
required deposit. The family must designate an adult in the USA to act as a
guardian for the student in the event of an emergency or to provide lodging
during the school breaks.

It is our commitment to educating and preparing young men in an ethical, spiritual and intellectual way to prepare
them well for the challenges of a global economy. U.S. students as well as
students from Asia and Eastern Europe will be the first boarders to enroll in
our residential program.

program begin at Archbishop Riordan High School?
As San Francisco's Oldest
All-Male Catholic High School, educating young men in the Marianist Tradition
since 1906, Archbishop Riordan is the only Urban boarding school in the Western
United States after opening the doors to the dormitory on August 1, 2011 for the
2011 to 2012 academic year.

Located just 20 minutes from San Francisco
International Airport and minutes from Northern California's financial center,
Archbishop Riordan is situated off the 280 interstate and directly across the
street from San Francisco City College. Archbishop Riordan is also located among
the nations leaders in technology, bio medical, science, alternative energy, and
finance. San Francisco is considered the most beautiful city in the United
States and one of the top three tourist destinations across the world.
8. How many Advanced Placement (AP) classes does Archbishop Riordan offer?
Archbishop Riordan offers up to fifteen Advanced Placement courses to qualified
students in the sophomore, junior and senior years. These courses culminate in
May of each year with the A.P. exam, which if completed successfully, confer
advanced standing and actual credit toward the baccalaureate degrees at over
1,500 colleges and universities. The courses which culminate in Advanced

Each student will be assigned a roommate with another student
from a different country, unless otherwise requested.
11. What amenities do the dormitories have?
Archbishop Riordan offers students two floors of living
accommodations, modern bathrooms and living arrangements,
wireless connectivity, media centers, study areas and private
dining facilities.
12. English is not my first language; what opportunities exist to assist me
in improving my English language skills?
Students with a deficiency in English speaking skills will be assigned a
language partner, an Archbishop Riordan American student, to converse and
communicate with in order to assist in strengthening his English speaking
skills. All first and second year students will be required to attend an
after school TOEFL and SAT prep class to ensure success on their required exams.
13. Do Archbishop Riordan students wear uniforms?
Yes. An important goal of the school dress code is to teach
students that in the larger arena of life, people draw personal and professional
conclusions from one's attire and grooming.
14. Do you have to be Catholic to attend Archbishop Riordan High School?
No. Archbishop Riordan High School admits students of any race, color and ethnic
origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made
available to students at the school. ARHS does not discriminate on the basis of race,
color, racial or ethnic origin in the administration of its education policies,
admission policies, financial aid and athletic and other school administered
programs.
15. What standardized tests are given to international students?
Every international student is given an institutional TOEFL
examination each year to mark and track his progress in verbal and written
English. Additionally, all students take the PSAT during their freshman,
sophomore and junior years in preparation for the SAT, and sophomores also take
the ACT Plan test. Consistent exposure to these tests has shown to improve
scores. Additionally, all international students are advised to take the SAT II
in their native language
