Essential Standards:
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of skills to improve coordination, flexibility, and physical fitness.
  • Students will learn and participate in activities that may be of ongoing interest and physical benefit to them throughout their lives.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge regarding emergency and safety skills, including but not limited to CPR, first aid, swimming, and personal safety.
  • Students will understand the wellness wheel (physical, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, and social wellness) as the model and state of total wellness.
  • Students will demonstrate individual initiative and compassion to produce cooperative teamwork and problem solving with fellow students.
  • Students will share with the community the importance of a balanced lifestyle including cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition co-existing with healthy nutrition choices.

Open to Grade 9

PREREQUISITES: Physical Exam

DESCRIPTION: In this Freshmen P.E. class students will develop skills in the following areas, Cardio- Vascular training to build strong hearts and also prevent disease. Weightlifting, here students will learn about major muscles and how to develop them through specific exercises. A unit of Nutrition will help students to choose better food sources. They will learn about vitamins and minerals and the proper sources to get these nutrients. The course will also provide a unit on drug awareness. The most important quality the class will have to offer is character building. By the end of the course the students will know what integrity is and how to obtain it.

DESCRIPTION: P.E. 10 - 11 -12 emphasizes the physical development of the individual. This course is designed to help the student realize the importance of physical fitness in the course of conditioning himself aerobically and anaerobically.
